The new venue, within sight of the Black Sea and the city of Rize, will host the first two rounds of this year’s three-round series for both the Men’s and Women’s SNX Championships, with a quick turnaround for the second round on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week!
Last year’s winner in Türkiye, 2024 World Champion Aki Pihlaja from Finland,lines up as favourite on his Lynx machine in 2026 in a strong 22-rider field full of contenders from northern Scandinavia, with riders from Czechia, Italy, France, and Slovakia, also ready to battle it out in the snow!
Aki’s countryman Topi Rinne is also likely to be strong, while Robert Lunden from Norway is another with good past results in Türkiye who is likely to challenge on his Ski-Doo sled for the top spots. The Swede, Anton Lindstroom is also one to watch. It’s worth noting that Juuso Ylipahkala will not be present after getting injured last week.
In the Women’s Championship races, Swede Wilma Jonsson will be the favourite on her Ski-Doo after winning her home round last year, while Finn Emma Laamanen will also be in contention for Lynx. Other Swedes, Tilde Karelius, took her sled to the podium in Türkiye last year, while Hilda Öhman is always one to watch!
With Qualifying Races on Saturday, 31st January, and two points-counting races on Sunday, the FIM Snowcross World Championship should provide some great racing in the picturesque Rize province, so be sure to catch all of the action LIVE on MXGP-TV.com!
